reflection on painting

I really enjoy this piece as I played a lot with contrast and symbolism. The idea of it came from the third collage I made so I want to display the effect of alcohol on people. At first I thought of making the owl figure and price tag as a pair as I want to make it as random as possible so I picked owl(animal) and price tag(non-living object) which are totally irrelevant. But then I feel like there should be a stronger reason for the characters I picked so I replace owl with rabbit as rabbits are known as having strong sexual desire despite their cute and innocent appearance. And I resemble the rabbit to people who becomes sexually desperate after getting drunk. I really like such symbolism and gives a lot more meaning to the piece instead of just aesthetic looking creatures.

Also I learnt to make good use of different brushstrokes within this piece. For the left part, it is mostly consisted of rough and sketchy brushstrokes while the right has more delicacy and details in the brushstrokes. The left part is to symbolise after drinking, people go delirious while the right part is to symbolise people having consciousness before drinking. While painting I bumped into a bottleneck as I feel like the artwork would look boring as it seems to be focusing on aesthetics only. I actually discovered the use of rough brushstrokes during the midst of paining and I am glad that I made such decision as it makes the painting looking more interesting with the transition in brushstrokes. Furthermore, the wine bottle in the background also holds symbolism: the right part with the mouth facing downwards shows that the person is pouring wine into his cup (he starts drinking) while the left one with mouth facing upwards means the person has stopped pouring drinks (he stops drinking and gets drunk).

Overall I really like this artwork as it has so much detail and thoughts for the audience to read and understand the story. However I was not really satisfied with the gesture of figures. it looks to subtle and lacks of madness. I would perhaps change the angle and make it a more aggressive and violent kiss.
